I Totally Missed This

img_4606I never got any kind of notification from WordPress telling me that my blog had reached a significant milestone. I found out by scrolling down my blog’s stat page and discovering that, at some point on Wednesday (I think), I reached 2,000 followers. Woo hoo!

I admit that I was surprised that I didn’t get any notification. The last time I received a notification from WordPress was back in October when I was notified that my blog had reached 1337 followers. Now, almost six months later, I reach 2,000 followers and not a peep.

Maybe it’s because WordPress knows that I don’t actually have 2,007 people who are following my blog. Based upon regular interactions (e.g., likes and comments), I may actually have maybe two or three dozen people who are legitimately following my blog, since I never hear from probably 1,950 of my 2,007 “followers.”

Anyway, regardless of whether you really are a follower of my blog, or if you’re just someone who randomly or accidentally clicked “follow,” thank you.

On a different, yet related topic, didn’t WordPress used to have something it called a “trophy case,” where you could see all of the notifications for things like number of posts, likes, followers, etc. that you achieved? What happened to that? If it’s still around, I can’t figure out how to access it. Do any of you know?

Congratulations. Even I was surprised when I didn’t got the notification on reaching the milestone. But yes have the same feeling who actually following as compared to those who click accidentally.
But a big congratulations on reaching your milestone and yes I enjoy reading your posts and love to participate in the word challenge whenever I am able to.

You stop getting the notifications after that odd 1337… and you’re right, the trophy case seems to have disappeared at some point. There is plenty of info on the stats pages though, especially if you click into each available heading.

As to the followers… I gave up counting a long time ago when I realised how many just click follow and never visit or read anything. Not even all those who click ‘like’ bother to read…

But the ones who keep coming back make all the difference.

I know where you are coming from.
At least 80% of my followers (that’s 13.75 people as of last Thursday!) make absolutely no contact with me. I choose to assume that they do, nevertheless, hang upon my every word but remain far too intimidated to engage in a one to one exchange.
And I respect them for that.

I, for one, do hang on your every word. It’s rough on my neck.

Hi Fandango. Congratulations. I think maybe another thing is that some people may read you but not Like or Comment. I do that quite often, as I do with everyone else. Mine is for valid teasons, as you know – blindness. But also I think this can probably happen anyway because I can get for instance over 200 vuews in a day, but maybe only a small number of Likes or Comments. So I know pwlple are feading at least. But wow, over 2000 Followers. That is great anyway.

You’re probably right, but it’s the interactions (likes and comments) that makes blogging so rewarding.

🙂 Fandango, I would like to congratulate you on surpassing two thousand followers.

In regards to the Trophy Case, I have not seen it since I came back to WordPress.

I think the WordPress folks must have dropped the trophy case. Oh well. Thanks for being one of my real followers, Renard.

Fantastic news! Congratulations! I find your blog very entertaining 🙂👍 I always figured about 10% actually ‘follow’ what we write 😑
I’m not aware of a trophy case but that might have been before my time. Keep on writing!

Congratulations 🎊🍾🎈🎉I don’t think that any of us have all those who click on follow, actually following us. It’s 50-100 people who read and comment or like the posts. That’s okay for me.

Thanks. It is a big number (at least for me, I know some bloggers have many times that number of “followers” who don’t actually read their posts).

You are welcome. It is a huge number by any standards. Those actually reading blogs are the ones who motivate us to write everyday.

Congratulations for reaching the milestone, good Sir 🙂 I think we all are aware that not everyone who hits the ”follow” button eagerly reads everything we post, but still, this is a big step anyway! And I am glad to be one of these 2007 😉

Congratulations! I hit a significant milestone and WP never notified me either. I don’t know why. As for the trophy case, I’ve been here for 5 1/2 years and never heard of it!! LOL

Before I shut down my old WordPress blog three years ago, there was such a thing, but maybe they canned it because few people knew about it. Like you! 😉

    Wow, that’s awesome! 🎉

I have to go onto my laptop to really check out stats and stuff. I find the app and even the phone browser just doesn’t give me a full picture. But since I don’t care so much, I may do this once a month, if that. I like to see where people are referred from and any funny keywords that they use to find me.

Regarding followers, yep same. The core readers like and comment with a few new ones joining in. The vast majority do nothing. I often don’t follow them back because their blogs are too impersonal and commercialized.

Thanks. I will go look at the sites for new followers, but I already follow around 170 other bloggers, so unless I’m really impressed by a new follower’s blog, it’s unlikely that I’ll follow it.

Well I’m at work. It’s getting more and more busy for me. I want to blog, but not for just the sake to it, if you understand what I mean. P. S. I occasionally read your posts, and Jim’s and Allison too.. So you ate the lentils and flat bread yet?

I don’t check those things, so have no idea. I just put a third ad blocker on my phone to keep ads away on wp. We’ll see if it works. My wp engineers just repeat, pay or stay with ads. So I don’t check on their concepts anymore. Congrats on the followers and I agree, the regular ones that respond are the ones that count.

I didn’t get a notice from them when I reached 10,000 followers and now it’s holding steady at 14,000. I also didn’t get a notice from them when I hit 100,000 views or 500,000 views and probably won’t hear anything at a million, either.

The Trophy Case vanished along with Freshly Pressed and the Daily Post and the Weekly Photo Challenge … am I missing anything? Probably. They only pay attention to you when you are new and they think they can get more money from you. After a while, meh.

That’s great! Well done Fandango 🙂
I asked the WP engineers a couple of weeks ago a question and in response they told me I was marked as a spammer. They said they have changed that and since I have noticed more of my posts (past posts that I have published) have had views and likes. Other than that…I find it hard to look at my stats.

I feel like I’ve dropped off the radar, too, when it comes to stats and such. They used to send me more alerts or something but whatever, I guess it just means I have to pay better attention. For what it’s worth I KNOW all of my “followers” aren’t visiting. Guess that’s the deal with blogging.
