One Liner Wednesday — Told You So

“The four most beautiful words in our common language: I told you so.”

American writer Gore Vidal

Are you an “I told you so” kind of person who rubs it in when you were right about something and another person was wrong? Or are you silently gracious about it?

I would be an “I told you so person,” but, according to my wife, I’m so rarely right about things that I have few opportunities to gloat.

And that’s when I explain to my wife that, while I’m not always right, I’m never wrong.

Written for this week’s One-Liner Wednesday prompt from Linda G. Hill.

I tend to be silently gracious…until I give the other person my own version of “kind crap.”

It’s so gratifying to be right and to earn the right to say, “ I told you so” I am sometimes in this position and say it when I want to reinforce the fact that I knew what I was talking about. 😃🤣😜

I’m not right very often, so I skip the ITYS in the hope that others will be kind to me when it’s their turn.

I want to say that I am not an “I told you so” kind of person, unfortunately, that would be a lie. One thing I have learned as I age is to say that phrase silently, to myself, rather than out loud. Baby steps!

I haven’t thought about Gore Vidal in years! Thanks for the reminder.

I am a giver, but also a gracious receiver of “I told you sos”

I tend to hold it back but I think my eyes might give me away…folks seem to get the “I told you so” gist without having to hear the actual phrase.

It kind of depends on the person and how they acted. If they were smug in what they thought was right it is kind of hard not to rub it in when the tables get turned.

That’s kinda where I am on it. With some people/person, I might not really rub it in at all… just being aware of what was insisted and what was real feels rubbed in to them. There is a hope that someone can learn not to be so smug, but…
