Each week I will pose what I think is a provocative question for your consideration. By provocative, I don’t mean a question that will cause annoyance or anger. Nor do I mean a question intended to arouse sexual desire or interest.
What I do mean is a question that is likely to get you to think, to be creative, and to provoke a response. Hopefully a positive response.
This week’s provocative question deals with exaggerations, embellishments, and lies.
“How do you feel about people who always seem to exaggerate when relating a story? Do you equate embellishment with lying? As a blogger, when, if ever, is stretching the truth, other than when writing fiction, permissible?”

Joffrey wouldn’t know what truth was even if it jumped up and bit him in the azz. He may not understand the concept of truth, being raised the way he was.

I never exaggerate, the story of my time in the Boy Scouts when I was excused from wearing shorts because my penis was of such an enormous length is completely and utterly true! Of course there is the school of thought that it might be considered permissible to exaggerate or embellish if one were writing slightly tongue in cheek.

Most of the time I tend to tell the truth although I have to admit the Boy Scout story was sadly a little exaggerated.

hyperbole is the most fun a kid can have, and I have to admit – I never did quite grow up!
And I don’t actually lie – fib, fabricate, tell tales of things that have an element of ‘truth’ to them, just maybe told to protect the innocent (and not the others).

A story is just that, not necessarily factual. I don’t see the big deal in either.

I would love to work on a post on this question – I am probably only going to have time at the weekend though.
I have scheduled a post to be published tomorrow morning English time – it is very factual – in fact, I have held back some information out of choosing to be discreet as to how ridiculous the behaviour of a certain person I crossed paths with was.
And as I was working on this post and all of the posts in the series, it made me think of all those who relate situations that have happened to them. Sometimes they are so hard to believe, and I have opted to think this person must be exaggerating (even if they do not have any malicious motive)…but I feel I have come to an age/stage in life, where I am starting to realize that things really do happen, people really do do these things…
(especially in America!)
I addition – when I say that Goldfinch is without doubt the most gorgeous man on the planet – I hope nobody presumes I am exaggerating!!! Because he is – he really is!
Anyway – I hope to develop these thoughts into some sort of interesting post at the weekend 🙂
