Inundated

Yesterday I had received more than 300 comments in my spam folder, which is unusual, as I typically get maybe 20 spam comments a day, most of which are about Nike sneakers. Almost all of these spam comments looked like the comments shown above. And when I woke up this morning, another 110 such spam comments were in that folder.

Is anyone else getting bombarded by these same spam comments?

Yes I noticed that yesterday and today as well. The same sender. All in response to one old post from last Fall.

I am, 128 yesterday and some more today. I used “bulk edit” to delete them, and blocked one of the pages, but there are so many of them!

Just checked. 165 since 10pm last night. You would think WP would do something about it, but then again imagine what a mess it would be without the spam protector.

No, but I do read news on the general topic (not so much specifically CBD).

🙂 Most interesting, my friend. You are getting spam that is based on Cannabidiol.

Rory has the same problem. I got most rated comments. Thank God for the spam folder.

Nope, but I did get a bunch about how to find sexy girls in my city…

I once was getting my car oil changed at a shop I’d happily patronized for a few years. Ownership had changed between then and the last time, when I’d not known who had been the owner (nor needed to know). The new owner was working at the counter and telling me about his amazing (and multiple) entrepreneurial endeavors, including one which was something about women (“many” from eastern Europe in the city). I felt I was getting strong hints about something like trafficking or “escorting” or some kind of long-distance dating or “bride” service. I never went back. I was somewhat conversationally curious, as two of my grandparents came from eastern Europe long ago, but I refrained from further interaction on that or any other subject matter.

Is this post for Flash Fiction? 😉

My spam folder has been fairly quiet. Not as quiet as it was during the months before X-Mas when it was a dead zone. There’s been a sudden active increase lately but not as much as what you’re describing.

Which is a relief as two of Rory’s comments ended up in there and I wouldn’t have found them if it had been full of spam.

I did get a few of the ones Willow mentioned over the course of a week.

I was going to say that maybe it was because I’m in the EU (for the moment anyway) but then I saw Sadje mention that Rory has the same problem as you and I live only a really strong arm’s stone’s throw away from him.

The spam you’re getting is really boring, sometimes they’re very entertaining to read, like the ones about that witch doctor who solves all problems with magic spells.

My fear in doing a bulk delete of my spam folder is that some legit comments will get swept up in the purge, never to be seen again. But when you suddenly have hundreds of spam comments, bulk delete is the only option. Going through one-by-one? Ain’t nobody got time for that.

It is driving me crazy. What’s worse is that there is 1 maybe 2 legit comments in there so I have to sift through them. It has to be those wonderful new ads being placed on everyone’s blog posts? Or I think maybe I really should try the new Keto diet?

SAME!!! I’m emptying everything and pray I’m not deleting a valid comment that went to spam. I went to block the IP address but it changes by one every few posts. Ugh and I’m too tired to dig deeper. So it’s empty and go.

Luckily I’m such a Luddite I don’t know where to find my spam folder, for all I know I could be awash with stuff about Nike trainers, sometimes ignorance is bliss!

If you go to your blog’s main menu on the left, you should see a link to “Comments.” If you click on that, there should be a sub-menu that lists Published, Pending, Spam, and Trash. Click on “Spam.”

Yep Fandango ol’ chap, and to be perfectly frank it’s doing my noggin in! Like you l was getting spam messages with an average of roughly 70 a day, l didn’t know about the things l have learned today and to quote Country Bumpkin above, l was like a Luddite in so far as the bulk edit, delete options and block.

I was sifting through a entire day’s worth which numbered about 100-110 and stupidly deleting one by one. I was very pleased as l was n’t missing anyone’s comments which my biggest fear. But l have now or rather had got used to seeing sexy women in city, nike, blah, blahdy and blahdiers.

Diligently and daily was my credo.

BUT!! Yes BUUUUUUUUUUT!! That changed dramatically this morning when l saw 610 and was like what the good grief Fruck?

So painfully l started deleting one by one, then learned the new tricks during my deletion thank goodness. got rid of them, and hour later another 100, and just now reading your response on my post looked again and another 120 odd!!

So so not on, since starting the comment here, a quick check and l have flicked to comments spam and a fresh 25 so what’s that 25 in the space of three minutes??

GRRR! Doesn’t even truly come close to how l am feeling about these people, if l was in the same room, they wouldn’t have a sodding computer anymore and perhaps with careful persuasion, they wouldn’t have the intent to keep posting either!

I wasn’t joking when I said I have no idea where my spam folder is, I’m sure every computer must have one but I don’t get that many silly emails so I assume they must go in the spam automatically.

Having seen what an annoying thing spam must be I can think myself lucky I have no idea where they go on my computer, at least that way I don’t have to see them.

I just cleaned out my SPAM folder due to your post reminding me. Most of my SPAM comments all come in on the same post Announcing A Contest and they usually tell me that I don’t rank high on Google and that they can fix this for me.

I don’t think that these spammers realize that I am not concerned with my Google ranking. Blogging is a way for me to do public service, so that is why I write about topics and not about my life, like many other bloggers do. This is my way of giving back to the WordPress community.

no probs with mine. can you alert WP and see what they can do to strengthen their filters for this kind of marketing attack

I can alert them, but whether or not they do anything is another whole matter. I’m getting about 30-40 of these CBD oil spam messages an hour!

If they are all from the same source (ISP) you might be able to report them to the BBB…

They seem to have slightly different source URLs. Different enough that blocking on source doesn’t help.

This isn’t happening to me at the moment, but it HAS happened in the past, several times. You get on someone’s spam list and you get deluged. Just DELETE everything and be careful because sometimes they seep into your regular mail. Eventually, it ends. I don’t know why it happens and I don’t know why it ends, either.

I’m assuming that whoever or whatever is spamming me will grow tired of it in a few days, but in the meantime I’m getting 30-40 spam comments an hour.

Not getting a lot of Spam but have started getting a lot of comments in Hindi on my poetry. I used a translator on Google and this blogger tells me “You do not know the price of Vermilion” Ummm…she would be correct!

I “blacklisted” the terms “CBD” and “cbdoil,” So now, instead of going into my spam folder, they all go directly to trash. But I’m getting about 200 comments a day in my trash folder now. I’m not sure if it makes any difference if they’re going into my spam folder or my trash folder. I’m still getting far too many.
