64b1b897-b130-4f8b-829f-9e0e157bd48cMark was surprised to receive a registered letter from the sheriffs department in Wheeling, West Virginia. He lived in Chicago and couldn’t imagine why he’d be getting such a letter from any sheriffs department, much less one from Wheeling.

He tore open the envelope and read the letter.

“We have recovered a vehicle, a 1953 Chevrolet Deluxe, which has been identified as the one that you reported in 1958 as having been stolen from the parking lot of your apartment building in Chicago. See the enclosed photograph. Please make arrangements to retrieve your vehicle from our impound.”

“I’ll be damned,” Mark said.

        I got two Bentley’s from an old farmer’s paddock … took a few years, a few shows, then sold them because the insurance was horrific! But loved ’em …
        What I wouldn’t do to have a look at that one!

          I bought and restored a 1958 Jaguar XK150 and a 1967 Austin Healey 3000. I sold them both for a tidy profit at the time. But now m, with 20/20 hindsight, I wish that I would have kept them both.

      Yes, trying to get a rusty old heap into running condition is a major undertaking in both time and money.

    I had a 1975 (76?) Chevy Impala, Fast Back. And found out first hand just how expensive it is to restore a ‘classic’ auto. Eventually I had to sell it because I knew I’d never have the funds to do the car up properly. I hope the new owner did the job, he claimed he was going to. It really killed me to lose her too, she’d been in our family since 1978.
