Insider Information

3d014dea-3277-47de-b800-d26271ec024f“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Darren said. If we dont jump on this, we’ll be frozen out of the deal.”

“You know, Darren, if you had a shard of integrity, you’d want us to walk away from this deal,” Henry said. “It’s an onerous path that the team would have to follow in order for us to see any kind of decent return on our investment.”

“Listen, I’ve got sound information from a source on the inside that the company is on the cusp of being awarded a big government contract from the EPA,” Darren said.

“Who’s your source?” Henry asked.

I can’t give you his name, but believe me, he’s an individual who can be trusted,” Darren said. Trust me, Henry, this deal will make us a bundle.”

*****Three weeks later*****

Henry ran into Darren’s office holding the newspaper. “Did you see this? The government is on shutdown. All contracting processes, including those at the EPA, have been suspended indefinitely.”

“Yeah, my source called me about an hour ago,” Darren said. “He told me that all bets are off.”

“Great, just great,” Henry said. “Do you know what this does to our bottom line? It’s like taking an uppercut to our financial chin from Floyd Mayweather. Do me a favor, Darren. The next time you get some insider information from a so-called reliable source, don’t come to me with it.”

#writephoto — The Forest for the Trees

132116e7-f536-491f-b49e-6d3f0c1d9014“That is absolutely fantastic,” Ellen said as she and her son were on their way to do some shopping at their local mall.

“What is, Mom?” Jimmy asked.

Ellen pointed to the wall. “That is,” she said. “It is so artistic, so expressive. The genius of the person who created it is truly amazing.”

“Uh, Mom,” Jimmy said, “I think you’re going a little overboard in your enthusiasm. It seems pretty straightforward to me.”

“Straightforward?” Ellen exclaimed. “You take after your father, don’t you? Just like him, you fail to see the beauty and artistry that is all around us. How can you see that,” she said, pointing again to the wall, “and not feel a sense of wonder? How does it not stir your imagination, heighten your senses, and elevate your spirit?”

“What are you talking about, Mom?” Jimmy asked. “It’s just a sign. And it’s kind of funny, actually.”

“Yes, it is a sign,” Ellen said. “It’s a sign from God. It’s a sign that speaks to the talent, artistry, and grace He has imbued in us. It’s a celebration of His love for us. There’s nothing funny about it. It’s a thing of beauty. It’s inspirational.”

“Mom,” Jimmy said, shaking his head. “It’s a sign that has two cartoon-like cars facing each other. It says, ‘Please Park Bumper-to-Bumper.’”

“I’m talking about the mural painted on the wall,” Ellen said, “not about the damn parking sign. You are so like your father. You can’t see the forest for the trees.” she added, as she stalked off in the direction of the mall.

“Whatever,” Jimmy sighed under his breath, running to catch up with his mother.

Dammit WordPress

b558d83d-f9dd-4807-b3d0-dc6ebf12b60dThis is what I’m talking about, WordPress! What is going on with the Reader in the iOS app? I know that there wasn’t a five hour gap where no blogger I follow posted anything last night! So why the fuck aren’t their posts showing up in my Reader on the app.

Hang on a second, WordPress. I’m going to log into Safari on my iPhone. Give me a second, okay?cda1004d-9aa2-4bb8-9e9a-bee5864797c0Okay, I’m back. Do you see that, WordPress? The “missing” posts are there in the Reader on the web browser, but not on your app.

Get your shit together, dammit.

JusJoJan — They Gave Him An Inch

7e47d4cd-5480-4ad3-a0fa-726e41ca0bb3Did you ever hear the expression, “Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile”? It basically means that if you make a small concession for someone, that person will be emboldened to take further advantage of you, instead of being content with what you have given them.

This is the trap the Republicans have fallen into. They have kowtowed to Trump and freely given him just about every “inch” he’s demanded.

So, that old saying about giving an inch and taking a mile needs to be updated in the era of Donald Trump.91ac0e5d-533e-408a-bd28-6b5a6c34a108

50 Word Thursday — Hauling Boxes

b4db9377-63d8-470e-8af2-d177383aac86“It’s simple,” the man said. “All you have to do is carry these boxes from this house to the one at the top of the alley. I’ll give you five dollars for each box.”

I was out of work and really needed the money. There were maybe 20 boxes to be moved, so I figured sure, why not? A hundred bucks to move boxes. I estimated about 10 to 15 minutes each way and figured I could have all 20 boxes moved by the end of the day, no problem. So I got started hauling the boxes, one at a time, up the alley.

Although it was a simple thing to be doing, something strange was happening. Each box seemed a little bit heavier than the one before it. By the time I got to the tenth box, it was so heavy that I could barely lift it.

I hadn’t bothered asking the old man what was in the boxes. I didn’t think that was any of my business. But when the box was almost too heavy to lift, I had to see what was inside of it. I pulled off the tape, opened the flaps and looked inside. “Oh my God,” I screamed.
