For today’s Just Jot It January post, Linda G. Hill asks us to jot about our blogs. She has posed these questions:
Why did you start blogging?
I started THIS blog in May 2017 because I had retired at the end of 2016. By May, my constant presence around my wife (i.e., always being underfoot) prompted her to say to me, “Why don’t you start a new blog?” I also needed a vehicle to vent about the horrible mess known as Donald Trump.
This blog isn’t my first blog. I initially started blogging in October 2005, as I noted here. It was more of a personal journal back then. I just wanted to do some creative writing and to express my views and observations on life, politics, and society. Hmm. Pretty much the same things I write about now, thirteen years later.
How did you come up with your theme, if you have one?
I’m not sure if by “theme,” Linda is asking about the appearance of my blog, like which WordPress template I use, or if she’s referring to my niche (i.e., the subject matter of my blog). So I’ll answer both ways.
As to my blog’s physical appearance (or in WordPress speak, blog theme), I wanted something simple and straightforward, where the appearance wouldn’t detract from the content. And I also wanted a theme that was mobile phone friendly — one that suits reading and writing on a smartphone — since I do almost all of my blogging from my iPhone.
As to the theme or niche of my blog, there isn’t one. As my blog’s tagline says, my blog is “random musings on life, politics, and society,” along with a whole lotta flash fiction.
How has it changed your life?
Blogging has actually become an important part of my life. It occupies many hours a day spent writing my own posts and reading those of the other fine bloggers I follow. I enjoy the act of blogging and the interaction with my fellow bloggers.
