Donald Trump closed down the federal government over funding for his stupid border wall, affecting roughly 800,000 federal employees over Christmas, many of whom will remain on furlough without pay if the shutdown continues.
But Trump is having his New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago and he needs party tents for his private party at his private resort for his private guests who are paying up to $1,000 each to attend the president’s private ego-bash.
So who’s footing the bill for those tents? I am. So are you if you’re an American taxpayer. Yes, with much of the federal government grinding to a halt, you and I are paying at least $54,000 for Trump’s tents.
According to government spending data, Grimes Events & Party Tents Inc. of Delray Beach, Florida was paid $54,020 by the US Secret Service on December 19 for “TENT RENTAL FOR MAL.”
Hey, if I’m paying for his fucking tents, the least I should get is an invitation to the party, don’t you think? Of course, were I to have received an invitation, my RSVP would read, “Go fuck yourself, Donald.”
Just confirming the federal employees are UNPAID furlough. Two acquaintances of mine who work for the feds in DC were paid during their furloughs the last time doofus (?) shut it down. Also, do you have any clue how much those federal workers make? They’ve got lots of savings to dip into during their furlough. The federal government is way way way too big and powerful for its own good. That said King Joffrey will hopefully choke on an olive at this lame party and do us all a favor.

Aside from what they make, let’s talk about investments like Life Insurance dividends and stock.

Wouldn’t it be funny if someone mixed them up with termite tents. No! That would be terrible!

Just to clarify, according to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on twitter, every single member of Congress continues to receive full pay and benefits as well.

That discrepancy got passed under John Boehner.

In my country his actions would be described thus. “This man is a cad and a bounder and his actions are just not cricket!” He is without a shadow of a doubt a complete arse.

This pisses me off too. The man has no shame. None at all, and the people who voted for him should be angry that he is using THEIR TAX DOLLARS in such a foolish manner while the government is closed.

If the “guests” are going to pay to be there, it’s a campaign fundraiser (in which case there are laws against it being supported by tax dollars the way he’s doing it), or it is a fairly ordinary business activity — as Mar-a-Lago is a business, where he lives in part of it — and, again, tax dollars should not contribute to the function for profit.
(There is a third possibility; that there are people who want to be considered friends… and that he is such a bad host as to charge friends a thousand dollars. But I recall him calling people who paid a hundred thousand for membership “friends” — which membership fee was doubled to two hundred thousand when he won the presidency.)

It’s a private function at a private club, so I don’t think it can be called a campaign fundraiser. Just another way for him to capitalize on his position. But our tax dollars shouldn’t be paying for the freakin’ tents.

Our tax dollars certainly shouldn’t be going to his tent rental expenses. I just get to thinking of details… will the overall take go to some aspect of The Trump Organization, or some other “entity” — or to his name personally? (Any of these being tax considerations for declaration, attribution, etc.) And the reasons Republicans have for shutdowns are so convoluted. When are people going to figure out this stuff doesn’t “add up” metaphorically? Literally adds to debt. Should Mexico pay for his tents? Maybe the gofundme collection “for the wall” should. The people who voted for him ought to consider themselves liable for his abuses.

The people who voted for him are too ignorant to understand the concept of liability.

Some (such as those donating to a crowdsourcing way to supposedly pay for “the wall” in a private manner) don’t seem to get that simply having some money does not legally authorize the actual putting in place of any portion of wall.

I couldn’t agree more nor said it better! You BET I’m pissed that while people aren’t getting paid, while immigrants are still being rounded up, there will be no shortage of champagne for the $20,000 a pop members of Mar-A-Lago with a photo opp of their favorite orange blimp. And considering his promise was that MEXICO would pay for the wall, there should not be a deal of any kind for the wall and anyone who gives him a dime, deserves the crazy he brings.
