Mother/Daughter Talk

D273226B-A198-4A89-9FDE-A6F5B85E87CF“We need to talk, Belinda,” Betsy said to her daughter. “I just would like a little peace and quiet in my life. Instead, you persist in creating one kerfuffle after another.”

Belinda sighed and rolled her eyes. “Mom, I just have a voracious appetite for life,” Belinda said. “I wish you’d accept me for the person I am.”

“Let me be explicit with you, sweetie,” Betsy said, attempting to be patient with her rebellious daughter. “You’re going through this viscous cycle of extreme behaviors. It’s not your fault that you’re suffering from bipolar disorder, but you need to keep up with your meds.”

“Of course you’re right, Mom,” Belinda said, more than a hint of sarcasm in her tone. “I’d be so much better off going through life as a numb, mindless, compliant zombie instead of experiencing all that life, with its ups and downs and highs and lows, has to offer just so you can have some peace in your life.”

“But wouldn’t you prefer to be on an even keel rather than having these extreme mood swings?” Betsy asked.

“I’ll have an eternity to be on an even keel when I’m dead,” Belinda said. “In the meantime I’m going to celebrate life by living it to the fullest, even if it interrupts your precious peace and quiet.”

I once lived below someone who thought like Belinda. On a good day they would run around like a hamster all day and night. On a bad day they stomped around and trashed all their furniture all day and night. Drove me nuts lol

I enjoy trying to figure out how to concoct a relatively cohesive tale using a number of random words suggested by different bloggers. It’s fun.

I have a friend who is bipolar and refused “modern medicine” but finds pot evens his moods out well. Great story!
