“You say that every year on the day after Thanksgiving,” Anna said. “But yes, last night’s dinner was extreme.”
“I just can’t fathom how gullible and, yes, stupid, some of my relatives are,” Craig said. “I’m sorry, Anna, but this is it. No more family Thanksgiving dinners at our home. Never again. I can’t take it anymore.”
“Never say never,” Anna said, trying to console her husband. “Trump won’t be president forever.”

I must live in a pretty atypical family because Thanksgiving dinner at my son’s house went quite well. No, we’re not all on the same political wavelength, but we do know how to be good to each other.

Happy to hear that. Our Thanksgiving dinner, likewise, went well. My story was pure fiction, but based upon what I have heard that other families have experienced at Thanksgiving dinners.

Most, but not all. My daughter’s significant other leans right and thinks Trump “isn’t so bad.” While my son’s SO is smart enough to not express her political opinions around us, so I honestly have no idea which way she leans, politically speaking.

My son Michael is probably the most liberal member of our family. We didn’t discuss politics on Thursday for the most part, but the subject turned to DNA testing, since all we know of my Dad’s Dad was that he’s an orphan out of Missouri. I was explaining how DNA testing isn’t an “exact science,” and the topic of Elizabeth Warren came up. My other son David hadn’t been aware of the whole Warren DNA issue, but the discussion was quite civil, and Michael and I agreed that if having a native American heritage is important as part of her family history, that’s no big deal. It just shouldn’t have any sort of bearing on her professional/political life. Everything else was food and playing Jenga.

Trump seems to be on a par with Brexit when it comes to ‘interesting’ family get -togethers.

On Wednesday, an account manager who calls himself libertarian (but shared some beliefs that don’t fit with American libertarians, or most libertarians in the United States) was so confident in his point of view (that we are gods and Trump has put himself in a place to take down the system and rescue us from tyrany) that he gave me quite an earful. He was looking forward to a “they” (including Trump) taking over with a new system. He was pro-our-government-being-based-on-the-King-James-Bible and anti the fact all our records are sent to the Vatican beginning with the financial instruments of the certificates of our birth… since 1933. Got that? It was pretty scary.
On Friday, I went to a bar/restaurant where I kinda know a few people who work there (from going there quite a few times) and found out the young lady who was going to spend Thursday with her boyfriend’s parents who went vegan a couple years ago [yes, the parents went vegan] ended up sick from the food. It was so bad she threw up all night and had to go the hospital to get intravenous liquid, etc. (I’m suspecting she’s allergic to soy or something, but I’ll maybe find out sometime). There’s another gal there who herself is pescetarian and going to school studying biological science, but this one is none of that and going to school for law enforcement.
