C27256EC-FD65-4C84-AEAE-BE64CA6AB454The officers had taken away Camila’s daughter, Sofia, at the detention center. She asked the officials about her daughter, but they were no help. Camila sought out legal aid resources who were working on behalf of detained immigrants, and they were finally able to locate Sofia at a juvenile center in another state.

As she was walking into the center with the woman from legal aid, Camila spotted Sofia’s stuffed teddybear on the floor on the other side of a barbed wire fence. She knew she was about to be reunited with Sofia, and her eyes filled with joyful tears.

And that’s going to be one very unhappy little girl who has to recover from not having her mother (at least) and so cruelly not even being allowed her teddy bear. But it was a sign to the mother that she was headed in the right direction.
