Word Salad

C2A11C38-F5FD-4704-9824-9CC6C01AF2FA“The sun simmered red as it slunk towards the jagged horizon,” Trevor said. He looked at his wife and asked, “What do you think?”

“Huh? Did you say something?” Samantha said.

“You never listen to me, do you?” Trevor responded. “I was reading to you the first line of the new poem I’m writing. You obviously have no respect for my craft.”

“Honestly, Trevor, I don’t have the energy to do this. But I do respect your writing efforts.”

“Yes, a grudging respect at best,” Trevor replied.

“Look, Trevor,” Samantha said, “you’re a kind, sensitive, humane man and I do love you, but I find your poetry to be indecipherable.”

“You don’t know anything, Samantha,” Trevor angrily said. “Poetry is the ultimate expression of creative artistry and my poetry is very digestible.”

“You’re right, Trevor,” Samantha said, “your poetry is about as digestible as a word salad.”

I had a dubious flirtation with poetry in my youth, but it was extinguished due to lack of talent and finally interest.

I’ve played around with poetry, but I suck at it, so I rarely even attempt it.

Ouch! Back to back posts by Jim and you, I hope that was merely a coincidence, and not any subliminal message?

I missed what back-to-back posts you’re referring to. Do you mean the SoCS badge posts? NO COLLUSION!

Nope. We didn’t touch base or compare notes or do anything even remotely like that. Any suggestion to the contrary is fake news and is a witch hunt. No collusion!

I was pretty good at poetry, for years… but the rhyming kind, which was called childish or passe at the time. A life’s work that I never considered crossed my mind recently — backup singer. I could’ve written at least words for songs too. I always loved collaboration (the good kind) 😀. All the things I enjoyed most — other than the concept of family as well as home (which might not go well with touring) — were artistic (which my sort of poetry supposedly wasn’t). [My approach to family and home were creative though — as a homeschooler, I was an unschooler. Maybe I should’ve been a rapper. That hadn’t exactly taken off yet. And women (not to mention white ones) weren’t really in it (as we weren’t accepted as rockers either). Okay, I should stop talking… ]

[Yet, I should add… friends of a boyfriend at my (Lutheran) high school did comment on my talent. They were people who weren’t taking the same kinds of classes that I was. So teachers liked it, and they liked it. I wish I could’ve taken more encouragement from them.]
