Better Than Sex

B1AAF46D-364A-4B17-A0AF-EB59483D2B02I’m not sure how much longer I can keep up this pace.

No, I’m not talking about sex. I’m talking about blogging. So if you saw the title of this post and that’s the only reason you’re here, you can leave now.

I write and post at least three or four times a day. Sometimes five or six times.

I love writing, exercising my imagination and creativity. I love keeping the synapses firing in this old brain of mine.

I love it when people read, like, and respond to my posts. It’s addictive, like a narcotic, a rush, a shot of adrenaline.

I love responding to prompts, including my own.

But there are just so many writing prompts these days. Stream of consciousness prompts, one-liner prompts, word prompts, story prompts, photo prompts.

So many that it makes my stomach and intestines start to grumble and rumble as I try to figure out how to use the word borborygmus in a post.

And then there is the treasure trove of topics for political and social commentary in the land of Trumpistan. Trump provides us with a once in the lifetime (I hope) opportunity for bloggers.

But maybe it’s just too much. Maybe I should harken back to the days when I just sat around serenely reading the newspaper, reading books written by others, and watching inane TV shows.

No, I cannot. I need blogging to release those endorphins. Blogging is better than sex.

Okay, maybe not. But it’s a close second.

Written for Fandango’s One-Word Challenge, “pace.” And for the Word of the Day Challenge (serenely) and for the Ragtag Daily Prompt (borborygmus).

I find myself thinking the same on some of your points. It is addictive.

Me too, The supply of the stats at wordpress and the interaction, we all crave interaction, is insanely addictive. But I look at it from a different standpoint, probably one of arrogance, but I don’t care, I think what we all do and what I read other people doing is worth a hundred times a picture of a cat in a washing machine. It is highly addictive though, like a really smooth opium, and I love it although quite how you find the time to post 5 or 6 times a day is beyond me.
    Have all bloggers retired?
Keep it up Mr Fandango, you don’t know what you’ve lost till its gone!

I don’t think ALL bloggers are retired, but some bloggers either don’t have family members or life outside of WordPress it seems. And yes, I don’t know how I find the time to do 5-6 posts a day, which is why I only did 3 today. Life got in the way.

I’m not retired, but am technically unemployed…although I wonder if a writer can really be unemployed. It’s like being an actor. You are always an actor even when you are not staring in a role.

Lol…I am feeling really bad lately because my current WIP editing is taking most of my time and I can only post 3-4 original posts a day plus my prompts and scheduled theme posts. I feel like I have ten jobs…lol

You’re not alone my friend! I’m trying to keep on top of all the challenges I do, plus add a few ‘original’ posts as Hubby likes to call them. I’ve got six posts lined up to complete for challenges and have already put out 5 (your daily one included!) Blogging is terribly addictive. I love it!

I love this. And no, I am not here because of the title. Blogging everyday becomes a sort of addiction. You need your fix regularly.

TEOTWAWKI and that mass die off preppers predict.

Some of them will be junkie bloggers forced to unplug indefinitely and have to face the reality of life again.

Either that or play non stop solitaire until their batteries run flat.

I am still pretty new to blogging, so still trying to keep pace. I have to say thanks to you for giving one word challenge which is allowing me focus on my thoughts around that word. Till now I was old school and used to write my random thoughts in diary. I literally have dozen of diaries and I think I can never stop it. There are so many thoughts you Iwrite for myself. As to your title, it reminded me of a tweet I read once, “Sure sex is good but has anyone ever rubbed your back for a long time” 😁

I know one blogger who kept diaries/journals since she was a kid and will occasionally write a post with what she wrote years ago. It’s so funny.

laughing, i don’t know about blogging being better than sex — thinks about it —- hmmmm. I really do love blogging though. I can’t match your output. Two a day is about my max, three on a good day but only if two are haikus

Once when I was 22 I had some pizza in Chicago I declared “better than sex!” Naturally, people said I hadn’t had enough sex yet. Well, I’m old now and I still say some things are better, like excellent pizza and the rush of presenting your creativity to a responsive audience.

We can now debate Chicago vs NY pizza because some arguments are also more fun than sex. OR ARE THEY???

      Chicago.

      (But not better.)

I like thin-crust pizza, versus Chicago deep dish pizza. But, sorry, even a great pizza is not better than sex. Steamed, seasoned Maryland blue crab, maybe. But not pizza.

I think I’m “supposed” to like thin-crust better, since I’m from St. Louis.

I had a nice “flatbread” the other day from a pizza place, however, that sure seemed like thin-crust pizza to me… with outstanding toppings.

I think I’m an addict too. I love combining all the daily word prompts into a Haiku for the heck of it!

And that’s hard to do considering how few words a typical Haiku actually has.

Guilty as charged. I know that of which you speak. They say the hardest part of recovery from addiction is to admit you have a problem. Id say youre cured!😛 Even though this week alone I did not want to post on 3 or 4 days, I didn’t want to be bothered. I mean seriously, I was ready to stop. It wasn’t because I suddenly stopped liking posting, it’s because I felt like it started to eat a little too much of my day away (which is why I no longer have facebook/twitter, etc). The ironic thing was it wasn’t the guilt of blowing the 365 that motivated me, it was the comments, and reading your blogs and others (not to mention the weird addiction to all the prompts, yours included) that kept me from cutting off. Just crazy. Of course posts with sex in the title is pretty hardcore and an attention getter! 😂

Don’t you know that once you start blogging you are obligated to continue it…just like once you write your first prompt response, you are legally obligated to continue. The blogging police will hunt you down and make you write “I will blog daily” a hundred times on the chalkboard until the new Space Force or Religious Ethics Committee needs the room.

Blogging better than sex? No, but i do agree it can be addicting. I just dont know where you find the time to read, comment and blog all during one day. I myself get behind in reading pretty easy.

Pizza is a close second, not blogging. Blogging is like 38 or something on the list. Way after ice cream but long before radio news updates. Just the thought of watching the news make my tum borborygmus.

Reblogged this on Ideas.Become.Words and commented:
    Entertaining and oh so true.
Bloggers are aware their time on WP should be as creative as possible, not only with their delivery of prose, but also through engagement with each.
And that, right there, is a conundrum.
    Me time.
We’ve all been told we need more of it, and to feel less guilty about taking it, but then sod all else gets done!
I also have days when I might post three or four times.. why?
Because I become overwhelmed by a notion that I need to share something. There and then.
I admire bloggers who plan their posts, editing a piece until it is perfect, engaging and long enough to say something but short enough that you can still tend to the needs of your day!
    I type. I post. I edit. So wrong!! 😂🙈

I think it is definitely better, but then maybe I’m not doing it right….

I know exactly what you mean about it being addictive. I started in March and I feel I have to write something every day. It is really thrilling when you get a good response from something.

On my first blog experience. Decided before I ever looked at a blog that I’d just commit to 10… and easy, manageable number (I thought). If I wanted to say more, I’d pick another subject. So far I’ve blogged weekly with #10 coming up tomorrow. Having an end in mind really helped with the pressure (in my case). If you need a chuckle: sexover60.wordpress.com
