Tale Weaver/#FOWC — Steady Growth

ADAA4A2F-AB2D-4391-B96E-88C09E437738When it comes to personal finances, I am quite conservative. I don’t have a significant amount of money to fund my retirement years, but I want to do whatever I can to make sure I don’t outlive my savings. And that’s why my investment philosophy is anything but aggressive.

I don’t take chances with speculative stocks and instead, I try to focus on slow, steady growth. I know there is potentially more to be gained in the short term by taking risks (i.e., the greater the risk, the greater the reward). But as a retiree, I am not willing to bet my future on dicey stocks.

Besides, while there has been a steady run-up of the stock market that started even before Trump won the election, I’m expecting the market to stumble and fall and I don’t want to be financially devastated when it happens, as I am sure it will.

I have a good friend who thinks that, by being so conservative, I’m leaving “money on the table.” Well, maybe I am. But whenever I go to a casino, which is not very often, my rule is to never bring to the casino more than I can afford to lose. So I go, I have fun, but even when I lose to the house, which is more often than not, I’m not in so deep that I am at risk of literally losing my house.

On a slightly different note, I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out how to fit the word “susurrus,” which is today’s Word of the Day Challenge prompt, into this post. It’s a word I’d never heard before, so I Googled it and found out that a susurrus is “a soft murmuring or rustling sound; whisper.”

So with that in mind, should you hear a susurrus from me, that might just mean that my slow and steady growth approach to investing may not be going so well.

Written for today’s Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Tale Weaver prompt, which is all about growth, and for Fandango’s One-Word Challenge, “steady.” Also for the Word of the Day Challenge, “susurrus.”

WATW — Socks

C4730C9B-557C-49F1-9196-686AF639FAFA“Dammit. I’m not going to allow you to eat another sock!” Melinda yelled. “I already have too many singles without a matching sock.”

Melinda then flung herself into the industrial-sized dryer looking for the missing sock. After rummaging around for a minute or two, she jumped out of the machine and announced, “I got you!” and triumphantly held up the odd sock for everyone in the laundromat to bear witness to the success of her mission.

Wow!

Apparently when I was off entertaining our out-of-town visitors, this happened:img_1922I am totally blown away! And all I can say to those of you who follow my blog, especially to those who really follow my blog, is thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to read, like, and comment on my sometimes nonsensical flash fiction, my political rants, my weird takes on various prompts, and my periodic whining about the curse of technology glitches. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I appreciate you being here and interacting with me.

Pat yourselves on the back, bloggers. You are members of a great community. Thank you for welcoming me and accepting me. I’m honored to be just a small part of it.

THANK YOU!

Republicans Are Assholes

CEBB81DC-96DB-4BA3-B1F3-574F8531F142I’m sorry, but it has to be said. The majority of Republicans are assholes.

Anyone with a brain who watched, heard, or read about Trump’s “performance” at the press conference that followed the one-on-one summit with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on Monday could see that Trump’s behavior was treasonous. And his actions since returning to the U.S. since have shown him to be the American Traitor-in-Chief.

And yet two separate polls taken since his return from the summit show that Republican voters think he did a fine job.

A poll from CBS News reveals that 55% of Americans disapprove of President Trump’s handling of the summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but 68% of Republicans approve of how it was handled.

Another poll from Axios and SurveyMonkey found that 79% of Republicans approve of how Trump handled his joint press conference with Putin. Among independents, 62% disapprove and 33% approve.

Axios additionally noted that 85% of Republicans see the topic of Russian interference as “a distraction,” while 85% of Democrats say it’s a “serious issue.”

WTF, Republican? Are you blind, stupid, or are you really just a bunch of assholes. It looks like Trump was right when he said this during the campaign:AE2FCC98-887A-4D34-84FC-16F4A8724BE7
