Coyote Ugly

Today is the final day of serving as the tour guide for our out-of-town visitors. When we headed out to Golden Gate Park to walk our dog and to show off one of the nation’s greatest city parks, they got a little freaked out when we passed this sign.15EE0CF2-5E91-47AF-B322-9DAA9A7DA5BC“There are coyotes in this park?” One of our visitors asked. “Have you ever seen one?”

“Many times,” I answered. “But they typically keep to themselves, so it’s not an issue. We just have to keep our dog on the leash so she won’t go running after them. That would not be good.”

I could tell that our guests were a little uncomfortable at the possibility of coming across wild coyotes. Every time they spotted a German Shepherd one of them would point at it and ask if it was a coyote. So I decided that perhaps it was time to take them to a “safer” tourist destination and we headed over to Alcatraz Island. FD7D8C31-2978-47C1-96BF-8F57E6C577A4I’ve yet to see a coyote at Alcatraz.

Are there coyotes out your way?

It’s the ones that you don’t see that you have to worry about.

Haha, coyotes are all over the place in SoCal too. I’m hoping to visit Alcatraz next month. Usually I go up north in winter when it’s too cold.

That’s strange, though I’ve found that some videos that play in the U.S. don’t always play in other parts of the world, and vice versa. Must have something to do with licensing and/or copyright laws.

We will be tour guides in SF for visitors from the UK next week. Plans include hop on hop off bus, Beach Blanket and Alcatraz. Anything aside from the usual touristy things you’d recommend?

Hike Lands End trail, day trip to Mount Tam and Muir Woods (if you have a car), Ferry to Sausalito or Tiburon, Ocean Beach, De Young Museum at GGP, Palace of Fine Arts, Legion of Honor, SF MONA, Coit Tower, Chinatown, Japantown, Ferry Bldg/Embarcadero, AT&T Park (if they’re baseball fans and the Giants are in town), UC Berkeley, Delores Park, Washington Square, Alamo Square, The Castro, Haight-Ashbury, Union Square. If I think of other sights, I’ll let you know.

No. At least not yet. It’s a little too far away (almost 200 miles due east) and the winds generally don’t flow from east to west. The Napa and Yolo fires were a lot closer (40-60 miles) and are to the north, so the smoke and ash were picked up by southerly breezes.

Hope you enjoyed your visitors stay, but glad to have the house and time back to yourself.
Hubby and I have had 2 decent night’s sleep since our guest left, and things are slowly getting back to normal (ie. slow)

Yes, having guests was fun but exhausting, so I’m looking forward to getting back to our normal routine.

We’re two days after, and still working on it. The nights are good though………. no reverberating snores in stereo!
