#FOWC — Down But Not Out

1E5FB4E1-E8E7-4829-9CBE-D644DD5067B0My page views yesterday were down by nearly 50% from what they were just four days ago. After a cursory review of possible causes, I came to the conclusion that my duties as a tour guide for my out-of-town guests resulted in my writing fewer posts yesterday, posting fewer responses to comments people made on those posts, and reading and commenting on fewer posts by other bloggers.

In fact, I was so busy entertaining our guests that I even forgot to write a post in response to my own one-word prompt, “cursory.”

But far be it from me to allow my precipitous drop in page views yesterday cause me to feel woebegone. Oh no, I’m going to make that feeling of woe be gone. I’m going to plant my feet squarely on the ground, and take my guests on the best tour of San Francisco today that one can imagine.

5330D350-810F-4AD5-B29B-6F7C47F060A1I’ll be like that ant in the fairy tale that my Great Aunt Sally used to read to me. The one about the little ant carrying a huge load many times its size and storing up food for the long, cold winter while the grasshopper sings and fiddles away the summer, leaving it having to beg the ant for help.

(I realize that this Aesop fable, “The Ant and the Grasshopper,” seems to be a bit out of context here, but I had to figure out a way to use the words “great aunt” and “ant” in order to complete Teresa’s Three Things Challenge.)

Written for today’s Word of the Day Challenge, “woebegone,” for Teresa’s Three Things Challenge, where the three things are great aunt, ant, and plant, and for yesterday’s Fandango’s One-Word Challenge, “cursory.”

Have fun! I lost 10 followers in 12 hours…I think I’d rather have a drop in visits again…lol

Yep…lol. I recognize one name missing but they rarely ever said anything. Don’t notice anyone gone. I think I would get my feelings hurt if I lost one of my blogging friends. Have a great time being tour guide 🙂

My visits and likes have doubled since I began writing more posts to the prompts, but for whatever reason I don’t get followers even when I follow first. Oh well. I’ll be happy with the visits and likes! 🙂

Its that momentum thing…sometimes one post leads to them reading others but once theres that void and youre out of the WP reader then I think one hits the troughs.

Something else to consider sir. I follow two very very popular bloggers on here: Marilyn at Serendipity; and Brian Lageose of Bonnywood Manor. They both noticed a decline in numbers and stats, and both had (different) issues with Word Press fudging around with their sites and blogs. It might pay to make sure your stuff hasn’t been similarly breached.

Having done a compilation post these past few days due to health issues, I loved your post today! Keep on keepin’ on. Those who admire will continue to read and your numbers will come back. I think so..?

Yeah, WordPress has been having some funky issues lately. And thanks for your kind words.

I’m not popular at WordPress didn’t intend to. As long as my pals visit my shores and I visit theirs, all is good in this virtual world.

Everyone says that quantity doesn’t count.

But it does. More posts, more hits. That’s just how it works. Sometimes, though, you just have other stuff to do.

Mine have dipped this past week too as we’ve had a visitor. Don’t worry about it.
My followers bounce up and down too, and I seem to have a lot of commercial sites!

Yeah, I seem to have quite a few followers who appear to have commercial sites, too.

🙂 Hmm. Fandango, am I supposed to believe that a popular blogger such as yourself had a drop in page views yesterday? Sorry, I am not buying it!

I’m still relatively new to WP and I’m trying to build a following. I can’t let the number of followers or statistics get to me. That’s for social media! I write poetry and I understand its not for everyone. C’est la vie!!

Nice way to work all the prompts into your post. Hope your numbers balance back out.
