It’s not that I pay all that much attention to my blog’s stats or anything. I mean, they are what they are, you know what I’m saying? And like every other blogger out there, I don’t blog for the stats. Or so we all claim. (Wink wink, nudge nudge.)
Still, when I see a precipitous drop off in the number of daily views over a four day span, it is a bit disconcerting to me. Have I lost my touch? Too many uncaught typos? Is my sense of humor failing? Are my opinions too extreme? Am I being too political? Or not political enough?
Are my posts too short? Too long? Too serious? Not serious enough? Do I need more pictures? Fewer pictures? Am I using too many curse words? Am I being too risqué?
Oh wait. I just checked my stats again.Never mind.
I don’t check my stats. Wait they are at zero.

Better than less than zero.

If less than zero, I’d recommend finding another hobby 😛

Don’t change a thing, you are perfect just the way you are and if you get less readers, then fuck all of those rotten bastards.

I must admit to checking my stats. Demoralizing, though, when I’ve spent hours on a poem and photography and someone who just has a line saying they don’t feel like writing today has twice as many views. Number of views isn’t always indicative of the strength of your post is what I am saying…

Could not agree more with @lifelessons. I have across posts that speak volumes of rants and there will be at least 60 people reading the post with most engagements.

It’s almost impossible to predict which posts will resonate and which will fall flat. I write, I post, and I wait and see what happens and then I do it all again. The blogger’s life.

True that. Understanding the People’s mood is always a mystery. I hope WP does not end up like Instagram or Facebook with likes for likes, follow to follow or i unfollow and comments for comments😀😀

I’ve discovered that views, comments, and likes fluctuate up and down from day to day. It’s when there’s a downward trend over multiple days that gives me pause and I start to second guess myself.

That’s why they are nonsense. Ignore them. Write if you feel like it. For me I think your blog is unique and love it. I’ve been having nonstop company and cannot blog the last few days, and I miss it. I consider most I follow friends and would miss the contact.

It is better to speak profoundly to just one than to blather at a world of idiots….yes, you can quote me. LOL

I just may do that. Stay tuned!

Your blog posts are definitely cool and worth the read. I know I’d be truly bummed to watch a graph of my blog comments – so I don’t look. lol Sometimes life just gets in the way and I can barely get through the emails, client writing, babysitting and my own blog posts so if I’m AWOL you’ll know why. Keep writing – it’s great!

Same here! I agree with all of it, and I second everything you said. But it’s good to know that I am not the only one who has seen a drop this month (not that I check or compare 😝) I just think people are enjoying outdoors a bit more? I mean I usually like to get my post published earlier, but I have been so busy with summer things I haven’t gotten to it until, well, much later.

Yeah, I think that people take vacations, spend more time away from their computers, and are busy with summertime activities. So it stands to reason that traffic will be slower, perhaps until the summer season winds down.

Totally agree. I guess it stood out because I had the best month ever in June (not that I noticed) I guess it does validate you in a way, you know?

Ever since they gave away my site name to several other people, I’ve been down about a hundred hits a day. It’s up again right now, at least most of the time, but it bounces around. Right now, i simply don’t have the time to work on it. And, to be fair, they’ve cut the floor out from under me too many times. I’m not sure it’s worth the extra effort. When Garry’s surgery is done and we are finished with all his evals and tuneups, I’ll try to figure out what I want to do. I wish there was more of a choice because it’s either WordPress or … ? Tumblr? They are getting more into blogging.
Mind you, I’m actually way up over where I was two years ago, but down from last year, though part of last year was a glitch in the other direction, so the numbers from 2017 are a bit bloated.
But I gotta say, WordPress isn’t making pals of its customers. It isn’t doing anything to make us happy campers that this doesn’t bode well for the organization — or us. I don’t know what they think they are going to become, but I have a bad feeling that it isn’t going to work out well for them which means it also won’t work out well for us. Let us hope that someone else decides to jump into the blog biz. Soon would be good.

I’ve had a bunch of technical issues and app glitches with WordPress lately. I agree that whatever quality control measures they had in place seem to have fallen by the wayside.

I actually think that the MORE research and effort you put into the post, the fewer reader you will get. If you write nothing and keep it under 250 words, add a picture, voila — everyone loves you.

Well, many of my posts are under 250 words, have at least one picture, and often write about nothing important, but I do make an effort to write something at least entertaining, if not informative. Still, I’m not so sure that I’m feeling the love that, according to your formula, I should be feeling. Maybe, when I post about something (as opposed to nothing), I should do less research. 🤔

I find you just never know what appeals, so why watch stats? Write what you want how you want and enjoy the process. If it’s not fun anymore I wouldn’t do it.

Stats simply are a measure that provides feedback on how well what you write resonates with others.

Maybe you should check it with the same time last year. Perhaps were enjoying a bit of time off around the 4 July holiday?

My blog was only a couple of months old last July, so it was pretty much yet to be discovered.

Just a thought, but maybe the WP Happiness Engineers have modified the liking/views process again.

I decided some while ago that I would go even madder if I continued to pay attention to the stats. What is interesting is that even though I haven’t written for weeks, my stats still show some vital signs and never actually flatline. You do a great job as a blogger – just continue to do you and you will be absolutely fine 🙂

I will try, but I can’t stop looking at those damn stats and wondering. Hmm.

Heh — yer breaking my heart. I don’t advertise, don’t slavishly follow EVERYONE, don’t tag a bunch of stuff, and my blog isn’t listed on search engines, or at least most of them. So my readership is flirting around the “zero” margin. As a true story, if stats were what motivated me, I’d have moved on years ago. I like it when people like it — but to be honest I’m mostly entertaining myself when the mood moves me.
Oh, and while we’re on the subject, yeah, WordPress sucks, but I swore I’d give it a few months to see if I get used to it. I’m about >< that far from going back to Blogger.
