I was contemplating calling this post “A is for April,” given that today is the first day of April. But then I thought that would be too trite. (Apologies in advance to anyone else who may have used that title.)
So it was back to the drawing board, as they say. Then I realized that I am participating in the 2018 A to Z Challenge on what can only be called an ad hoc basis. That’s because I have no specific theme other than “other.”
So what, exactly, does “ad hoc” mean? According to the Merriam Webster site:
“Ad hoc is a word that originally comes from Latin and means ‘for this’ or ‘for this situation.’ In current American English, it is used to describe something that has been formed or used for a special and immediate purpose, without previous planning.”
And so, because I am participating in this A to Z challenge without a theme, and will be deciding each day, without previous planning, what I want to write about, I thought “ad hoc” is a good way to start.
I’ll be back tomorrow for my B-post. Hmm. I wonder what that post might be about.
To be honest, I’m not exactly sure how to link this post back to the official 2018 A to Z Challenge page, but I think that there is some page I can go to in order to get it on a list of others who have also participated in this first day of the challenge.
April Fool’s! Wait, I think I’m doing it wrong.

Like you, I dive into these challenges with good intentions and almost no planning (although this year I have about 5 posts ready).
As I am of the ‘other’ variety, I thought I’d check out all the ‘others’ on the master list.
Ad Hoc-ing works:)

I read and enjoyed your post and tried to leave a comment, but for some reason, my comments to posts on blogger never get through. Anyway, thanks for checking out my post.

Thank you; I never knew nor bothered to learn what “ad hoc” meant. Now I know. Good choice.
AND…I have no idea how to link to A2Z or where to find others posts. I don’t even know if mine has shown up where it’s supposed to 😳

That’s the best ‘ad hoc’ I’ve read in a while. Good luck with the next 25 letters. I look forward to reading your thoughts.
