Donald Trump makes my skin crawl. When I see or hear Trump, he turns my stomach. He literally makes me feel sick, angry, and upset.
So I know this is going to sound counterintuitive and possibly even strange, but I find Donald Trump to be captivating. Captivating in a sick, twisted way, but captivating nonetheless.
Trump famously said, “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.” And he’s right. He is a Svengali-like character. He is a man who, with evil intent, dominates, manipulates, and controls.
Somehow, Donald Trump has lured 40 percent of the American public, about 85 percent of Republican voters, and almost all Republican politicians into his web. He has turned the GOP (the Grand Old Party) into the POT (the Party of Trump).
And yet, I can’t turn away. I’ve tried, in vain, to ignore the crazy things he says and does, but to no avail. Watching Trump is like when you see an accident and can’t stop looking. I am addicted to political news in a way I’ve never been before, and, as much as I hate to say it, I attribute that to Donald Trump.
Written for today’s one-word prompt, “captivating.”
