Don’t forget. Tonight at 2 am, you need to remember to turn you clocks and watches ahead one hour. Because that is when Daylight Saving Time officially begins.
Okay, before you say it, I know that, technically speaking, 2 am is not tonight. It’s tomorrow morning. Fine. I stand corrected.
Anyway, in the U.S., Daylight Saving Time started as an energy conservation mechanism during the first World War. It became the national standard in the 1960s. The concept behind it was to shift more daylight hours into the evening. So if the sun sets at 8 pm instead of 7 pm, we’d presumably spend less time with the lights on in our homes at night, saving on electricity.
I can’t remember the last time I was still up at 2 am, so I will be going through this semi-annual time-shifting ritual a little early, like at around 10 pm tonight.
And let me point out that it’s Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight Savings Time. It’s not plural. I’m sure if you diligently point out this common error to your family, friends, and acquaintances, they’ll really appreciate it.
Well written.

I’d prefer to keep the same time like AZ does. I’m definitely pointing out the it’s not plural! 😊

Our clocks go forward on the 25th here in the UK. It will be interesting to see if it confuses the dog now we’re back in a house!

Our dog adjusts to everything. It’s us humans who are bewildered.

The hour change always threw Maggie for a few weeks, yet she wasn’t bothered at all on the boat!

I wonder why being on a boat versus land would make a difference to a dog.

We have no idea, other than on the boat we had no passing traffic as we did in the house, and kept to our routine. She wasn’t affected when the clocks went back in October, but then we hadn’t been here very long and it was all change for everyone. We shall see!

It confuses me… Ani just gets up with the alarm anyway 😉

We have no alarm set, unless we have to get up really early, and then I don’t sleep very well in anticipation anyway! Maggie gets up with me, so the longer I stay in bed in the mornings, the longer Hubby has time to himself!

I have three…at intervals in time and distance, so that I have to get up. I am usually awake before them, but can happily sleep through all three… especially days like today where the thought of getting up at six to get ready for work every single day sort of sticks 😉

I have a small alarm clock by the bed which is never set, the ticking of which I can tune out. But if we need to get up early I set it and then the mobile for five minutes later. I’m usually awake before either go off though.

I have mine staggered, at various distances from the bed 😉 I am usually awake before them all, but if I sleep through one, I can still sleep through them all somehow.

Ben Franklin thought that inventing Daylight Saving Time would save money through the economical use of sunshine instead of candles to provide light, if everyone moved their clocks ahead by an hour. This was originally said as a joke, but eventually it caught on. Florida wants to break with the US tradition of daylight saving time thinking that they will get more sun. Even if governor Rick Scott signs the bill, the state alone does not have the authority to put Florida on its own time.

Arizona doesn’t go on Daylight Saving Time at all, since it gets so hot there that they want the sunsets earlier to allow for cooler early evenings once the sun sets.

That makes sense. When I was younger I used to look forward to Daylight Saving Time as it meant that the bars would stay open an hour longer and this gave me more time to drink. Go ahead and say it, I used to be a lush.

I don’t have to say it. You just did.

We haven’t changed our clocks yet. Most of them are electronic and change themselves. The rest require height and we are short.

Hmm. Other than my laptop and my iPhone, most of our clocks (e.g., oven, microwave, car, bedroom) require manual changes.
