Today’s one-word prompt, “silhouette,” is not a song prompt. And yet, when I read the prompt, the old song, “Two Silhouettes on the Shade,” a 1957 hit song originally released by the 1950s bebop group, The Rays, came to mind.
It’s a song about a man who walks by his girlfriend’s house and sees through a window shade the silhouettes of his girl and a guy in a tight embrace. He gets so upset that he runs up to the front door of the house and beats on it until the door opens. He finds out that it’s the wrong house. Relieved, he goes running to his girlfriend’s house, where he hopes that he and she can be the two silhouettes on the shade.
Here is the song, followed by the lyrics. Enjoy.
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, hut-hut
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, hut-hut
Took a walk and passed your house
Late last night
All the shades were pulled and drawn
Way down tight
From within, a dim light cast
Two silhouettes on the shade
Oh, what a lovely couple they ma-ade
Put his arms around your waist
Held you tight
Kisses I could almost taste
In the night
Wondered why I’m not the guy
Whose silhouette’s on the shade
I couldn’t hide the tears in my eye-eyes
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Ty-oh, oh-oh
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Ty-oh, oh-oh
[Instrumental Interlude]
Lost control and rang your bell
I was sore
Let me in or else I’ll beat
Down your door
When two strangers who had been
Two silhouettes on the shade
Said to my shock
Your on the wrong blo-ock
Rushed down to your house with wings
On my feet
Loved you like I never loved
You my sweet
Vowed that you and I would be
Two silhouettes on the shade
All of our days
Two silhouettes on the sha-ade
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Ty-oh, oh-oh
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Ty-oh, oh-oh
Two silhouettes on the shade
Silhouettes
Thanks for sharing the song.

And we managed to get two different versions of the same recording. Amazing!

The only song I could remember with that image was Jon Bon Jovi Ugly. Have you heard it Sensei?

No. I’ll see if I can find it.

I remember this by Hermans Hermits as Silhouettes. Wow. Takes me back a bit (a lot!)

I like the original better!

I was 2 when the original came out which is probably why I don’t remember it, and the first thing I noticed was the difference in tempo. It’s jogged my memory though as this is one I used to play years ago! Will probably have a dabble down memory lane later. Have a great weekend. 🙂
