Friday Fictioneers — By Land or By Sea

737F6A92-D362-43E6-9F16-018AC121A80E“So do you want to drive or take the ferry?” Jack asked his wife. “I think it will be quicker to drive,” he added.

“Oh, let’s take the ferry,” Susan said. “There’s no rush, you know. And it’s such a delightful night. The moon is full, the water in the bay is calm, and the evening temperature is perfect.”

“I don’t know,” Jack said. “Besides, you know I can get seasick at times.”

“Come on, Jack. It will be very romantic to take the ferry across,” she said, winking at her husband.

“That’s it. We’re driving,” Jack said firmly.

Obvious a little disconnect in the romance department. Nicely done!

Of course, Susan knows Jack so well after 15 years of a lackluster marriage, she really wanted to drive so she knew Jack would do the exact opposite of anything she said. The only reason Susan doesn’t leave Jack is she’s not sure she could ever find someone as easy to manipulate as Jack. Basically Susan always gets her way and Jack doesn’t even know it.

Apparently Jack was not in the mood especially after that last time on the ferry when they were caught making out in a Public Display of Affection.

Jack’s right – I’m not sure romance, ferry and seasick is a good mix.

Seems like they’ve got to work on their decision-making skills. Why does Jack even ask, if he’s going to do the opposite of what she says anyway? It’s a wonder they ever managed to get out of the house.

Methinks Jack has problems other than seasickness.
    Too bad for Susan.
I kind of like the ferry boat ride idea in the backseat of the car. Sort of like smooching at a drive-in. But that’s just me.

Yeah, Jack’s seasickness is not the real issue at hand. Do people still go to drive-in movies and smooch? I thought these days it’s all “Netflix and chill.”

“Netflix and chill” is an internet slang term used as an invitation to watch Netflix together, and is also often used as a euphemism for sex, either between partners or casually.
